It's been kinda long since the last post. o__O Haha. I know, this is super random. I'm a new Hiro fan because of Mei-chan no Shitsuji, although I started liking him since Hana Kimi. Anyways, so, I was looking up more info on him, and I thought that maybe I'll start by translating something about his background as a new fan. I think most of the biographical stuff and Mei-chan intro can be found on google, but whatever...I hope you find it a bit interesting if you don't know all this already. ^^;; The first sentence after the headline is already so true for me, LOL. XD

Original article here.

Starring in Fuji TV drama "Mei-chan no Shitsuji" -- Mizushima Hiro -- Have an eye on the actor of the masterpiece

It seems like the number of girls desiring to be served by such butlers is increasing rapidly. He's acting as Shibata Rihito, the butler who does everything perfectly in Fuji TV's drama "Mei-chan no Shitsuji" (Tuesday 9 pm). He continues to have the lead role after acting in the same station's drama "Room of King" last fall. He changed from the role of "I was just like that" kind of freeter.
[freeter = people between the age of 15 and 34 who lack full time employment or are unemployed, excluding homemakers and student. source: wikipedia.]

"The image of a butler is a model of manners, being aware of proper posture/attitude and speech. Voice and tension have to be controlled as well. But, this is my first time acting so humbly to this extent, and my shoulders became a bit stiff," he said, laughing bitterly.

Because this time is a drama about school, in any case, the scenes will be lively with a lot of characters appearing. "Since I was surrounded by older actors in 'Room of King,' I became young again at once. I was kinda surprised. Everyone got along well and was fun."

The drama setting is a super ojou-sama's school "St. Lucia Girls' Academy." Where everyone lives in dormitories, the campus covers an area one-third the size of Tokyo, and helicopter is the common transportation. Tuition is 100 million yen each month [$1 million USD o__O!!]. Each student has a handsome butler.
[ojou-sama = daughters of high-class family. in the case of this drama, they're super rich. from now on, i'm just going to use "ladies" instead of "ojou-sama". and if you don't know it already, it's an all-girl school.]

Rihito is the ladies' most admired butler among the butlers. He was born into a family of butlers who have been serving the Hongo Group corporation for generations, and he serves Shinonome Mei (Eikura Nana) who has a blood relation to the Hongo family. He protects Mei from bullies/teasing and troubles, and he's a supporter who devotes himself to making Mei become an elegant lady.

"With one handsome butler for each student, the appearance of the drama world is brought out quickly. The growth of the butler and the lady can be seen in the drama, so it's not just enjoying a comedy."

After being a model for half a year, he debuted as an actor in NTV's "Gokusen 2" (2005). But before working as an actor, there were ups and downs.

Originally, his aim was to become a soccer player. He spent 6 years in elementary school in Switzerland, and he started playing soccer that time. He even participated in the nationwide high school soccer championship [in Japan]. As a midfielder, he went into the semi-final. After he got into university, he gave up on soccer because of an injury.

"I had nothing left." In the midst of desperation, he decided to study fashion, his only interest that time. "If I went to New York, I might be found to do something." He has experienced living abroad, and he knows English. To earn money to go to America, he started working as a model, as told by his seniors [at school].

He wasn't very good at photoshoots. While working hard to earn money, his interest in being an actor and showing his interior side grew. "I don't have confidence in being judged by my appearance only. Because of that, I live to hope that I won't be judged that way. Even just for a tiny bit, expressing the feelings from the inside, isn't that what an actor can do?"

Until this day, he still hasn't gone to New York. Even though he still wants to go, his priority right now is his work. "I want to produce a good performance. Not relating to my role, I think the final product is the most important. 'Speaking of Mizushima Hiro, it got to be that!' I hope to be an actor who can have such a masterpiece."

☆ 3 Questions

1. The time you feel happy...
The time when everyone around me is smiling. If it was me who did something to make everyone smile, I'd be happy.

2. If you didn't become an actor...
I think I might become a designer. I thought of studying abroad since I had interest in that.

3. If you could bring only one thing to a deserted island...
Dokodemo Door (from Doraemon). If I had that, I could go anywhere.
[dokodemo door = a door that allows you to go anywhere you want. i like how hiro answers this cleverly, lol. i really like doreamon, lol.]

Mizushima Hiro. Born on 4/13/1984 in Tokyo. He debuted as an actor with the student role in "Gokusen" (season 2, NTV). From 2006-07, he was the lead role in "Kamen Rider Kabuto" (TV Asahi). He was also active for dramas such as "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e" [aka Hana Kimi] and "Zettai Kareshi" [aka Absolute Boyfriend] (both Fuji TV). He takes the double lead role along with Narimiya Hiroki in the movie "Drop" releasing this spring. His current obsession is composing songs on his laptop. His special talents are soccer and English conversations.

A random blurb:

To any Arashi fans who might've read this, Hiro is a Keio boy just like Sho! It's funny how they both played soccer, but apparently, Hiro was a lot better, lol. His English is better too. Now I wonder if he can draw and cook better than Sho, lol. I didn't mean to make fun of Sho like this 'cause I'm still his fan. >__<;; The article says that Hiro has had "ups and downs" before becoming an actor, but it doesn't say anything specific about the "downs." So, I did a bit of research and found out that Hiro had quite a lonely and depressing childhood. Awww. If you're interested, go here to read about his childhood and credits go to pali_mari.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Thanks for reading!

It'd be cool if Hiro and Sho hang out with each other. They could've met in college. Haha, I don't know.
As a new Hiro fan who has some limited knowledge of Japanese, I'll try to translate more Hiro articles when I have time. ^^

You don't know how happy I was when I hit this post. Domo arigatou, ne. I'm a big fan of Hiro after Hana Kimi. But it's hard to find infos and facts of him online besides his short biography and photos. I guess Japanese magazines must write lots of stuff about him since he's quite famous in Japan now, but I'm not in Japan and my Japanese is zero, what a pain! So I'm very very happy knowing that there is someone translating bits of him and post it online, like you. Please go on the good work. I'm looking forward to your next post. Itsy bitsy posts are appreciate too.
By the way, do you mind if I translate your post into Vietnamese and post it onto a Vietnamese forum?

Why do we say "welcome" and "irrashaimase" at the start of each entry?

You might wonder about that. This community is like a crepes store, except we provide free translations of selected Japanese articles rather than selling actual crepes. We want readers or "customers" to enjoy our translations as if they're savoring delicious crepes. So, please be welcomed and enjoy~
